Welcome to Winfield!

Oh boy! Oh boy! Oh boy! I'm finally here!

Walnut Valley Festival fans sure had a lot to put up with this past week. What with getting flooded out and evacuated and all. But that didn't stop them from coming out when the sun did!

I even ran into a few (very gleeful!) Topekans at the show:

Here's what I showed up just in time for:

He was pretty good, got the crowd going. They all stood up and sang the words to some of the songs. Every song ended with a round of applause.

I believe Winfield fans are the happiest people on earth. Despite the heat, they were extremely gleeful. Here's one I ran into. He waited years (possibly decades) to make it down to the festival. Please excuse my sweatiness.

After a little mingling and meandering, I finally headed back to Stage 3 to watch The Byron Berline Band play with Barry "Bones" Patton.

They were fantastic. And yes, those are real bones Barry plays.

Don't believe me? Have a listen:

They also covered a Beatles song at the show.

Barry is no stranger. I'm a bit of a fan. I covered him for my documentary on interesting musicians in Kansas. This summer, he showed me how to play the bones. Here's the tutorial:

I was really disappointed that I couldn't stay for the whole festival. It runs through Sunday, so be sure to check it out.

You can find more information here.

And fore more on Barry "Bones" Patton, be sure to watch 49 News at 10:00 on Saturday night (September 20th). You'll get to hear a wicked awesome bones solo.

Viva la Winfield!
