Potty training ups and downs
Posted Monday, March 27, 2006
Piper decided about 2 months ago that she was tired of diapers. So with that decision, we began the task of buying her Pull-ups. For awhile we stuck with the actual "Pull-ups" brand with either Dora the Explorer or Disney Princess themes. One day I decided to save a few dollars and buy a store-brand, which had teddy bears on them instead. Piper didn't seem to mind them, but we found out the hard way that you get what you pay for when it comes to training pants. So we are back in "Pull-ups" again.
That being said, Piper has done pretty good with potty training. Thankfully, Chrissy, our daycare provider, helps with the process. She's had a few slip-ups, but all in all she does pretty well for someone who's not quite 2 and a half yet.
We've had some fun moments as well. Take for instance, a trip to an Overland Park mall a few weeks ago. Kris, the girls and myself went along with my sister-in-law Brandi (who's expecting) and my mother-in-law Pat to look for maternity clothes. Kris and I saw this as a great chance to get away for an afternoon. Plus, poor Parker, she's never really been out of town. While at the mall, Piper informs me that she has to potty. In 2-year-old speak, this means NOW! So after a little mad dash to the restroom, we made it to the bathroom just in time. She was done and hung out in the stall with mommy for a few minutes. As we were finishing up, she made sure to give me praise. "Good job mommy, good potty!" I heard quite a few laughs from the surrounding stalls, as I thanked her for her support. Oh the joys, of motherhood!
Another nice part of potty training is knowing that sometime in the near future you will be diaper/pull-up free. That is for one child, we still have Miss Parker who is now an 8-month-old that likes to keep up with her big sister. But, there's still some satisfaction knowing that your nights of making a mad dash to the store to get diapers are almost over. At the same time, there's the sense that your child is growing up too fast and eventually will stop needing you. First potty training, then kindergarten and before you know it your little girl is driving away to college. Perhaps I'm a little ahead of myself, but I am amazed by how quickly it all goes! It probably won't be too long before I'm blogging about Parker's potty training funnies!
