More than Meets the Eye

Last weekend, we went to Legends to check out the new Transformers movie. I'm a child of the 80's and I grew-up with the Autobots and Decepticons. Their adventures were part of my Saturday morning routine. I remember asking Santa Claus for an Optimus Prime (the OG models didn't come with the plastic crap that's standard with today's Transformer toys). But on Christmas morning, my brother ended-up getting one instead. I guess Santa didn't take a gender bias studies class in college.
Last weekend, the film rocked my world. However, I missed the hearing the Transformer's theme song. Even the Sci-Fi Channel's Battlestar Galactica gave a shout-out to the original theme song in the first episode. So, yeah. That's my only gripe.
Before the movie, my hubby and I did lunch at the Yardhouse. This chain has several restaurants in Southern California and it has an awesome selection of draft beers. We ordered the spicy tuna as an appetizer. We were warned the restaurant's version of one of our favorite sushi dishes would not look like anything we could identify.

Our server said it was prepared in an “oshi” fashion.
According to Wikipedia
"Oshizushi (押し寿司, lit. pressed sushi). A block-shaped piece formed using a wooden mold, called an oshibako. The chef lines the bottom of the oshibako with the toppings, covers them with sushi rice, and then presses the lid of the mold down to create a compact, rectilinear block. The block is removed from the mold and then cut into bite-sized pieces."
Overall, it was tasty, but I like my sushi raw, especially tuna. In this dish, some of the fish pieces tasted slightly cooked. I also thought the avocado/guacamole mix was almost overwhelming in flavor and over time, it made the tuna a little soggy. I enjoyed the texture and salty flavors of the edamame and dried seaweed.

My hubby ordered the orzo scallops. Orzo looks like rice -- but it's actually pasta. The scallops were seared nicely and I enjoyed how the pasta and mushrooms complimented the tomato pesto sauce. Yum!

After the movie, we did drinks and games at Dave and Busters. Saturday's drink special was the Shizzle - a tropical mix of Malibu Coconut and Pineapple rums plus a shot of Stoli Vanilla and pineapple juice. It's a great cocktail for hot weather.

We went up to the roof-top bar and watched fireworks explode over Hooters.
Good times.

Too bad Santa did not grant your wish. I guess you got a nice Barbie with a cute pink car instead?
Anyway, that sushi looks very appetizing, I would probably not notice if it was overcooked or not just by the looks, and besides everything will be yummy after few sips of warm Sake.
Thanks.
