A postcard after sunrise
Return of Saturn

My hubby took me out to the Brick Oven last week to celebrate the end of my young adulthood. I turned 29 last Thursday. Astrology folks call it Saturn Return: when the planet is in roughly in the same spot in the sky as it was on a my birth date. As I stand on the edge of 30, I look back at my cycle of experiences, screw-ups and new beginnings.
Of course, any birthday is a great reason to indulge in this decadent dessert. Let me introduce you to the Berries Chocolate Dream.
The chocolate bag is filled to the brim with white chocolate mousse, strawberries and raspberries. And the berries are soaked in Chambord and Grand Marnier liquors . Heaven! I had my own method to the dessert madness. First, I had my hubby crack into the bag for a bite of rich chocolate goodness. Then I scooped up a spoonful of mousse, berry and chocolate sauce used for the plating. Heaven! Since it had fruit, I figured I was covered for my Vitamin C intake for the day.
A few hours later, I came down with a cold and ended my birthday with a hefty dose of Tylenol Cold Night.
We tried to salvage my birthday celebration with a ball game at Kaufman Stadium on Saturday.
It felt like deja vu in comparison to my last Royals game. In September and last weekend, Seattle delivered a spanking to the Boys in Blue.

So we took comfort in the stadium snacks...like these tasty chili cheese fries. Spicy, hot meat and melted cheese topping crunchy fries. Good times.

It felt like a good day to order up this childhood favorite. As a teenager, I had a job making cotton candy from scratch. I remember coming home and covered in pink sticky cotton, from head to toe. I couldn't stand the stuff for about 6 months. I'm happy I'm over that period and I can simply enjoy biting into the hot-spun sugar cloud. I like letting it crystallize on my tongue.
After the game, we stopped by downtown KC for dinner. We tried out McCoys on Westport. Tasty hand-crafted beers. I enjoyed a pint of Peach Wheat - smooth, light and just a hint of fruit. It didn't taste like a sweet chick drink and I suspect serious beer fans would dig its flavor.

I was also impressed with all the gourmet additions available for the McCoy's Big Cheese. I added Gorgonzola cheese and sauteed mushrooms to my medium-well burger. The sharp flavors of the cheese complimented the hearty beef and bun combo.
Despite the Royal's shoddy performance, I came home with a winner. The first 20,000 fans picked up this snazzy bobblehead. Plus, Paul Splittorff tossed out the first pitch for Saturday's game.
Neato.
