War widow praises picketing bill

(49 News) Funeral picketing bill signed into law: War widow Brandy Sacco stood in a Capitol hallway, holding emotions in check as she answered media questions on funeral picketing limits Gov. Kathleen Sebelius had just signed into law. Yes, Sacco said, she was pleased there was now a way to keep picketers 150 feet from a funeral. No, the young Topeka mother stressed, it wasn't enough.
(AP) Sebelius signs funeral pickets bill: The home state of the Rev. Fred Phelps and his followers, who protest military funerals nationally and say the deaths are God's punishment for the nation harboring homosexuals, now has a law regulating their activities, but it won't take effect until a court rules it's constitutional.
(LJW) Legislator criticizes university repair funding proposal: A Douglas County legislator on Thursday blasted a proposal that would require university cities and counties, rather than the state, to pay for the backlog of maintenance projects at state universities.
(LJW) Sebelius says Iraq exist strategy needed: Gov. Kathleen Sebelius on Thursday said she supports efforts in Congress to try to bring U.S. soldiers home from the war in Iraq.
(Kansas Health Institute News Service) SRS wants to add beds to Rainbow: State officials have proposed closing the 20-bed children's unit at the Rainbow Mental Health Facility to make room for more adults.
