(Harris News Service) Proposal would require citizenship proof for

benefits:
A House panel is expected to vote today on a late-session bill that would require people to prove their citizenship to access a wide variety of public benefits. Groups that help domestic violence victims have joined opponents of the measure, saying it could deny certain aid to women endangered by an abusive partner

(AP) Bill would block local controls on concealed carry: Local governments couldn't impose their own restrictions on people's ability to legally carry concealed guns under a bill that gained first-round approval Tuesday by the House.

(AP) Costs of Capitol renovation fueling fire: Frustration with the rising cost of renovating the Statehouse spilled into the Senate's debate Tuesday on the budget, with some members trying unsuccessfully to suspend the $172 million project.

(AP) State would have final say-so over hospital deal: Legislative leaders could prevent the state-funded medical school from affiliating with a nonprofit, Missouri-based hospital system under a proposal senators added Tuesday night to a budget bill.

(Kansas Health Institute News Service) GOP to push market-driven health bills: House Republicans are expected to introduce a handful of "market-driven," health care reform bills over the next few days - perhaps as soon as Thursday - that touch on everything from tax credits to safety net clinics, premium assistance and health savings accounts.

(Topeka Capital-Journal) House GOP defends tax cuts: House Republicans on Tuesday said their tax policy thus far in the session has been reasonable and beneficial to the state's residents, and they admonished the Senate for not yet passing similar measures.

(Wichita Eagle) Photo ID to vote criticized: A bill that Democrats claim would make Kansas one of the hardest places to register to vote faces an uncertain future in the House.

(Harris News Service) Technical schools measure approved: A bill paving the way for increased attention and spending on worker training cleared the House Tuesday.
