Return To Jericho Part 2

Posted Friday, February 16, 2007

I just watched the recap episode of Jericho and it was a nice refresher. It gave me the idea to do this entry. Below is recaps of the next 5 episodes taken from my favorite recap website, www.televisionwithoutpity.com. I think Strega did a good job mini recaping the episodes, with clever humor so it's not taken to seriously. I will also provide a link to my blog entry about it so you can read my thoughts as I watched them.

Long Live The Mayor

They put the "Especially if you like corn" line in the previously! Hee. The mysterious Jonah (who was Dexter's dad, and also Zarek's ex) gets all Darth Vader-y on one of his flunkies when he finds out that Mitchell is in jail. After that, subplots are busting out all over, so try to keep up. Numero one-o: Gray comes back and says that New York survived, but DC didn't. Also, he wants to start his own personal Homeland Security investigation, starting with Hawkins. Numero two-o: Hawkins learns that, during his absence, Darcy had an affair with a guy in DC. Which means that he's dust, so problem solved. Numero three-o: Skylar trades an antique jewelry box to Gracie for a case of soda. But then she finds out NYC is A-OK, and since her parents might be alive, she wants the jewelry box back. Unfortunately, Gracie is turning into Gollum, so Dale steals the box, quits his job, and is rewarded when Skylar offers to put him up. Numero four-o: Dad almost dies. Again. April says that he needs Cipro, which they get can find ninety miles away in a place called Rogue River. Take a deep breath before starting numero five-o: Jonah comes to town, and Jake makes a deal. If they let Mitchell out of jail, Jonah will give the town the food he liberated from Dale's train. But with Dad out of commission, Gray nixes the deal. So Jonah's flunkies go and liberate Mitch. Jake negotiates a new plan: Jonah can sell his pilfered supplies through Gracie's, and buy goods from the town. As a signing bonus, Jonah gets to talk to Emily, who turns out to be his daughter. The kid who died because of something Jake didn't do was Chris, her brother. Dun dun DUN! With that (kind of) sorted out, Jake and Eric prepare to drive off to Rogue River. Before they leave, Heather gives Jake a kiss, and then tells him to "watch out for giant, irradiated hands." Or possibly "ants," but the captions said "hands," and it sounded like there was a "D" at the end. Either way, I hope it was foreshadowing.

Rougue River

While the Green boys are off on their road trip, Heather and Emily kill time by trying to make ice. Eventually, they succeed, and then I guess they save Dad's life by cooling him off, but that part happens offscreen, because this show is completely insane. Also, Gray visits the Hawkins family and spends the day being weird with them until, after some scripted dramatics from Allison, Hawkins says that he's with the FBI. Gray is such a sucker. Hawkins claims that he came to town to investigate some suspicious goings-on in Jericho. Eric and Jake set out for the excitingly named Rogue River. They find that the town has been cleared out by FEMA. Except not, because at the hospital, they run into a wounded soldier, and a doctor. Jake bonds with the soldier, Payton, by identifying him as belonging to something called "Ravenwood," and then sharing his own tales of adventure as a subcontractor in Iraq. Payton says that he and his pals came in to help with the evacuation. When they got to the hospital, they "helped" by shooting anyone who was too sick to be moved. Payton takes Jake and Eric to meet the last remaining doctor, and then the Ravenwood team returns, led by D.B. Sweeney. Payton immediately starts shooting at them, and then there's a lot of running around, and Eric pretends to be a doctor to distract the bad guys. Eventually, the Greens, and the doctor, escape, while Payton stays behind to martyr himself. Yay? They return to Jericho with the drugs to save Dad, plus a new guy for Gray to question incompetently. It's like Christmas! But at the end of the show Eric realizes that he left his jacket behind in Rogue River. And in his jacket was his wallet, which he naturally took with him in case he needed to stop at an ATM. And in his wallet was his ID, so now the Ravenwood guys can track them down in Jericho and ask what all that shooting was about.

Crossroads

We spend part of the episode inside Emily's head, and it's just as dull and confusing in there as you'd expect. The rest of the episode makes up for that by being fantastically crazy. Team Ravenwood turns up at Stanley's, looking for gas. He doesn't trust them, for no readily apparent reason, and heads into town to warn the townsfolk that soldiers are on the way. Jake gibbers that the soldiers are all bloodthirsty maniacs who will raze the town and salt the earth when they're done. He makes that sound like a bad thing, though. Eric finally sacks up and dumps April before she has a chance to mention that she's pregnant. Mom is pissed, so Eric had better watch his back. Apparently, Team Ravenwood took the scenic route, since even with a head start on Stanley, they don't arrive for hours. When they do, they're stopped on the bridge by the nascent Jericho militia. D.B. Sweeney explains that he has orders to commandeer supplies, and sounds perfectly reasonable. After some debate, and an accidental exchange of gunfire, D.B. Sweeney gives the townsfolk four hours to rethink the situation, and retreats. Then Jake's like, "See, what'd I tell you? He's a psycho!" So the townsfolk decide to blow up the bridge, because there's no way that Team Ravenwood could wade across a river that looks to be about three feet deep. Or, y'know, find a boat. Eric unsuccessfully protests the plan, tries tattling to Dad, and finally zooms off, claiming that he'll solve everything. Team Ravenwood returns and faces off against Jake, who says he'll blow the bridge if they try to cross. Hawkins takes out one of the Ravenwood guys, and D.B. Sweeney finally starts to get irritated. That's when Eric returns with reinforcments: Jonah and a couple of Jonah's men. Which is especially wonderful because, for the whole episode, Johanna and I had been saying, "They should just get Jonah. He's way more menacing than D.B. Sweeney." Team Jonah takes aim at Team Ravenwood from behind, and D.B. Sweeney slinks off into the sunset. Then there's another argument about blowing up the bridge, because, well, it'd be a shame not to, after all that work they did wiring it. Dad finally gets out of his sickbed and manages to slap some sense into people. They wind up just posting guards at the bridge, and Dad sends Jake off to invade Germany. Or something like that. The point is, nothing explodes. What a rip-off!

Red Flag

It's a very special Thanksgiving episode! Jake declares war on turkeys, which is ironic since he's in one. Then some Russian bomber planes drop packages of food and supplies, along with greetings from China. Naturally, the Greens first suspect that the food is poisoned, but after Gray eats some with no ill effects, they decide to warehouse it all until they can decide how to divvy up the goods. Jonah tries to strong-arm Gracie, so I guess he does like knickknacks after all. Dad rescues her, puts an end to the deal with Jonah, and then basically blackmails her himself. But he's very cheerful about it, so I guess that makes it okay. Stanley discovers that a pallet of food and a gigantic generator were dropped on his property. Mimi goes off to tell Jake, and while she's gone, Jonah's men clobber Stanley and steal the goodies. Dad tries to reason with Jonah, and when that fails, he prepares to lead a daring assault. But before that can happen, Emily sneaks onto Jonah's compound, knocks some guy out, and steals the stuff back. So Emily's a ninja. Mitchell almost shoots her as she makes her getaway, but Jonah stops him. Also, Jake finds a microchip in the parachutes that identifies them as being from the USAF, just to muddy the waters a little more. The rest of the episode is spent moving everyone's storylines another inch forward. And giving Dad some funny lines. Dad tells Eric that April's pregnant. Eric says that he'll help take care of the baby, but that he's sticking with Mary. Stanley and Mimi finally get it on. Hawkins helps to set up the generator so that he can bring cheesy pop songs back to Jericho. Thanks a lot, Hawkins. Oh yeah -- and someone ambushes Gracie in her store and murders her. And if it wasn't Mitchell who killed her, trying to frame Jonah so that he can take over the gang, I will be really and truly stunned.

Vox Populi

Dale finds Gracie's body at the store, and even before the credit appears, Mitchell turns up to finger Jonah as the murderer. Gray makes political hay out of what he claims is the first murder in Jericho in thirty years. Dad fails to make political hay out of how quickly Gray forgot that they used to have more than two cops in town. Speaking of whom: Good and Bad Cop get new jobs in a Greek Chorus. Gray forms a lynch mob, and goes hunting Jonah, who's hiding at Emily's house. Jake helps to chase away the mob, and shanghais Kenchy to tend to Jonah's Mitchell-induced injuries. To express his gratitude, Jonah flees. Meanwhile, Mom tells Dale that Gracie left the store to him in her will. so Dale punches Sean in celebration. Hawkins finds time to chat with his IM buddies, and tells them that he's totally grounded and can't come out and play. Gray catches Jonah, and gets elected Mayor. Mitchell mwah-ha-has at Dale, who tattles to Dad, who tries to tell Gray, who doesn't care. Got that? Yeah, I don't blame you. The point is, Jake double-dog dares Gray to shoot Jonah in cold blood. Gray flinches, and decides to exile Jonah instead, which sucks, because Jonah was so freaking cool. In soapier news: Mimi and Stanley manage to be cute, despite the scenes they are given. Bonnie maybe-hooks-up with Sean. Emily almost hooks up with Jake, except that's when a gang of refugees (or, dare we hope, zombies) arrive. Including Roger. We're still not done, though, because then Dale shoots Mitchell in a scene that's so self-consciously dramatic that it manages to wrap around to boring. And then Hawkins gets a spooky "See you soon" IM from the friends he dissed, along with some Google Earth images of him frolicking with his family. Welcome to the midseason cliffhanger.
