Lost 3.10 Tricia Tanaka Is Dead
Posted Wednesday, February 28, 2007

Tricia Tanaka Is Dead was a great episode. It was a welcomed break from the heavy episodes we've had so far all season. It was also a nice transition away from the Alcatraz island, back to the main island.
The return of Sawyer and Kate seemed a little out of place. It seemed only a few of the main survivors were there to welcome them back (along with people we've never seen them interact with). Desmond, and Sayid were all strangely missing from the welcome home party, and so even though it was intended to be emotional, it didn't come off that way. The most touching moment of the episode to me, was when Hurley visited Libby's grave. It also gave some more insight into his character and added depth. I loved the whole van business, and I can't believe they actually got it started, AND the eight-track player actually worked. If I were Hurley I would drive that thing to the beach and live in it. It would be so much better than anything you could build. There was great comedy all around. Sawyer seemed back to his usual self, and all of his scenes were great. I loved him teaching Jin "the three things any woman needs to hear." It only raised a few minor questions like: "How long had Roger been out there?" "Was Roger really just a janitor?" "Why was Dharma building a road?" "Where would this road lead?" But these questions don't weigh too heavy on me. The one serious plot of the episode (which was rather small) was Kate running off to find Danielle. Which once she did and the last lines of the episode gave me chills. We already knew the information, but the setting and Kate telling Danielle about Alex just gave me Goosebumps. Now let's see Danielle kick some Other ass!

I even thought the flashbacks were great. Then again I really like Hurley's character. It was cool to see the meteor struck the Mr. Clucks. And from what I gather Randy gets the job at the box company (that Hurley owns) with Locke shortly after the Mr. Clucks was destroyed. And Tricia Tanaka should have been fired (if she would have survived) for treating her interviewee that way. Cheech being Hurley's dad was cast perfectly, and it added even more depth. They explained why Hurley has an eating problem, but I think that his dad came back for the money, but ended up wanting to stay to be with them all even without the money was a great addition. And the scene where his mom says that she has "need" was priceless.
Overall a great episode, making us care about (and remember) the main characters again. There is no new Supernatural this week, so tune in next week for new episodes of Heroes, Lost and Jericho. Until then,
Namaste
