Kathy Mohn

Kathleen Mohn came to KTKA-TV Oct. 9th from Roanoke, Va., where she was Vice President and General Manager of WSLS-TV.

She also has been General Manager for Wichita’s most highly rated television station KWCH and worked as the General Sales Manager for KAKE TV. Prior to that time, Kansas City was her home, where she worked at WDAF TV.

Kathy will answer your questions about the future of the broadcast industry, the values of the station and her own experience at 11 a.m. Monday. Submit your question early. To learn more about 49 News, see this site's About Us page.

Moderator: Hi, I'm Jamie Oberg. I'll be the moderator for this chat. We welcome Channel 49's General Manager Kathy Mohn, who's glad to be back in Kansas. Kathy will answer your questions about broadcasting or anything viewers want to know about her. Let's get started. How do you think 49 News fits in on this changing and splintering media landscape? With consumers' attention divided among so many outlets of news and information, how can a television station reach a general audience?

Kathy Mohn: KTKA's mission is to provide news, information and entertainment when, where and how our viewers and internet users want it. That's a big mission statment and very challenging with all the options out there today. First and most important, we will deliver news on 49 News on KTKA and advance that news to our website 49abcnews.com. Our goal is to continually update our website as the story progresses. We are also focusing on our ability to send breaking news and weather alerts to cell phones and we are working closely with our print partners throughout our coverage area.

Moderator: How important is web-content, like these web chats, to the station and the company?

Kathy Mohn: Extremely important! The web provides users immediate access to news. Our responsibility as newscasters is to make sure we are continually advancing stories and updating the web with breaking news and weather 24/7. That is our goal. We are growing in that direction every day. Web Chats are a great way to get people in closer touch with our reporters and anchors. It personalizes our talent.

Moderator: How difficult is it to come in as a new general manager to station that has only re-launched its news operation so recently?

Kathy Mohn: It is not difficult because I love the challenge. This is a new and enthusiatic news staff that wants to work hard and provide the very best news coverage to our viewers and web users. I am very impressed with their focus and desire to win!

Moderator: What do you like to do when you are not at work?

Kathy Mohn: I love to spend time with my children and grandchildren. And I love to cook, garden and go walking and hiking with my dog, Riley.

Moderator: What are some of your favorite TV shows?

Kathy Mohn: For starters, I am a news junkie, so I watch a lot of news! For entertainment, I love Grey's Anatomy, Lost, and Boston Legal!! Then, of course, there's the Food Network, which is another favorite of mine!

Moderator: That's all the time we have for today's web chat. We'd like to thank Kathy Mohn for participating in this web chat. Watch for future web chats on 49abcnews.com.
