Description: Germanfest is the annual fundraiser for Sacred Heart Catholic Church and School, located at 312 NE Freeman, in the Oakland community in Topeka.
This two day event starts at 4 p.m. June 2 with outdoor mass, followed by a German buffet at 5 p.m. From 5:30 to 9 p.m. a silent auction will be held. Those in attendence can dance the night away from 7 to 11 p.m. There will also be activities for the kids.
On June 3, the festivities continue. Starting at 10 a.m. games, rides, booths and crafts, plus homemade German food will be featured. Menu includes Sauerbraten, Pork and Sauerkraut, Krautstrudels, German Potato Salad, Noodles and Sage Balls. Also, delicious Fried Chicken, Mashed Potatoes and Gravy, Green Beans, Rolls, and delectable desserts, including a fried German-Russian dessert. From 12 to 2 there will be bingo. And at 2 p.m. there will be an auction of new and gently used items, including a restored 1963 Nova Supersport Convertible.
Additional parking will be at the BNSF lot at NE Seward and Chandler with trolley service to and from Germanfest. The trolley is air conditioned and handicap accessible. Trolley service will be available from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
