Man steals rare, expensive bird from Lawrence pet store

Employees at a Lawrence pet store said one of their rare birds has flown the coop without their permission.
Employees said a man in a surveillance video stole a $1,800 Goffin Cockatoo.
Floor manager Evan Boxburger said three people entered the store Wednesday night around 6:30, one woman distracted employees at the register, while one man waited on the side exit and the man in the video took the bird.
Boxburger said he hopes someone returns the Goffin because he was an employee favorite.
"One of the reasons we probably had it for over a year is, I mean, it was worth price of $1,800 and just was kinda really bonded with a lot of the employees here so that's kinda what hurts the most is kind of that he's gone and now this guy's lonely,” Boxberger said.
Police are looking into the case. Boxberger said they think the getaway car was a light blue or grey 4-door Taurus.
