Lansing escaped prisoner, volunteer to be extradited following arrest in Tennessee
6:01 p.m. Monday, February 27, 2006
The woman accused of helping convicted killer John Manard escape from Lansing Correction Facility will return to Kansas.
Toby Young, 48, appeared before a Tennessee judge Monday and waived extradition.
Young ran a dog training program at the state prison in Lansing where John Manard escaped Feb. 12.
Authorities say Young helped Manard into a dog crate in the back of her van which she then drove out of the prison.
Outside of court Young, who is married, said she had not been allowed to make phone calls and hadn't spoken to her family.
Manard is being held in Chattanooga, while Young is being held in Cleveland.
Manard also waived extradition Monday at a separate hearing in Tennessee.
On Friday, the two took police on a 50-mile chase in Tennessee before Manard crashed the truck into a wooded area where police were able to make an arrest.
A slip-up by Young led law enforcement to Tennessee.
She purchased a pickup truck under an anonymous name in the Kansas City area and had the paperwork sent to their Tennessee hideout.
