Shawnee County opens enrollment into Crime Prevention Academy

The Shawnee County Sheriff's Office is accepting applications for its Crime Prevention Academy. This is an opportunity for citizens of Shawnee County to learn the basic crime prevention information they need to know to keep themselves, their family and property safe to limit opportunities for crime in their community.
The academy is a 14-week program that begins Sept. 12. The academy will be held every Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Paris Community Center, 6715 SW Westview Road.
Eac week deputies with the Sheriff's Office as well as representatives with Shawnee County Emergency Management, Safe Streets and the Battered Woman's Task Force will conduct the classes. Some of the class topics include, home nad personal safety, drug recognition, identity theft, financial crimes, computer/internet crimes, traffic safety, business security, neighborhood watch, emergency preparedness and domestic violence.
