Gardening Tip 8: To preserve your blooms, cover perennials at night

The change in temperature doesn't mean planting season is over.
Annette Jackson, co-owner of Jackson's Greenhouse, says fall perninals will do okay outside until Thanksgiving. But, you might want to throw a blanket over the blooms to ward off damage from freezing temperatures.

"They probably won't freeze all the way back," Annette said. "They'll probably burn some of the blooms up on top, which we don't want to do."
Annette said adding a layer of mulch around your perennials will keep heat and moisture in the ground and oxygen out.
The ground isn't cold yet. So, you can keep planting perennials, shrubs and trees, so the roots will grow.
Now is the time to bring house plants and tropical plants, like a hibiscus or citrus trees.
As far as lawns, winterizer needs to go on in about three weeks.
