After two years at the helm, the man in charge of Medicare and Medicaid is leaving.
The White House is confirming weekend reports that Dr. Mark McClellan will be moving on. An administration spokesman says McClellan made no secret of the fact that he was planning to leave, adding he'll be missed. He will leave next month.
Over the past year, McClellan's big job was to get the startup Medicare drug program running. After a rocky start it's now showing improvement.
McClellan is a physician and economist who has served other roles in the Bush White House. He was one of the president's economic advisers and ran the Food and Drug Administration.
In case you thought his name looked familiar, his older brother is former White House press secretary Scott McClellan.
