From the fingerstyle guitar picker Andy McKee to the co-founder of the band Kansas Kerry Livgren, attendees to this weekend's Wheatstock IV should have plenty of opportunities to met and listen to musicians.

"Wheatstock is a gathering of Kansas musicians, a lot of them are local. I think it's one of the most tremendous events in the whole area," said Topeka native and musician Greg Fox. "So you got singer/songwriters -- this is all original stuff."

Fox says area residents should be proud of the local talent and come out and support live music.

Livgren -- who wrote Dust in the Wind, among others -- will receive a lifetime achievement award, and McKee will take home the performer of the year award. The awards will be given out at 2 p.m.

Wheatstock IV happens Saturday, August 11 at Topeka's downtown Ramada Hotel, starting at 10 a.m. Admission is free, but they are collecting donations for the restoration of the Historic Jayhawk Theatre downtown.

McKee takes the stage at 6 p.m. Fox performs at 11:40 a.m. For a full schedule of events, click our event listing below or check out this story on cjonline.com.
