All ten Centennial League teams played ball in the Capital City Friday night.
We begin with a rematch of an early season upset, Washburn Rural and Topeka High. Rural upset the Trojans back on December 5, 74-to-66. But it would take one heck of an effort to repeat the feat Friday night at the Dungeon. No upset as Topeka High gets the 61-49 victory over Washburn Rural.
It was a big challenge for the women of Troy in the girl's contest. Rural came in to the Dungeon 11-and-3 overall. Rural hangs on for the 42-37 victory in overtime.
Next up, out to Seaman where the Vikes hosted Emporia. Emporia won it by 13 on the road Friday night, 64 - 51 the final.
A close one on the girls side as Emporia nearly pulled off a big road win, but the Lady Vikes were able to hang on in the end. Seaman won it 50 - 45.
Is anybody going to stop the Highland Park Scots? They were 15-0 going into Friday's match-up with Topeka West. Game high 17 for Austin and Kyle Weems, and Highland Park went on to win, 71-33.
In the girl's contest, it was a battle of Centennial League cellar-dwellers with the Lady Scots still in search of their first league victory. Park gets their second win of the year, time for celebration, and their first league win of the season, 59-52 the final tally.
The Shawnee Heights boys, now the only team in the Centennial League without a league victory. Would Friday night be the night, hosting Manhattan? Yes, they ended up with the 58-54 victory over Manhattan, their first league victory of the season.
In the girl's contest, the Lady Indians were looking for win number 10 against a young Heights group. And it was Manhattan that headed home with the victory, 45-36 the final from Heights.
Hayden hosted Junction City and Hayden got the 54-44 victory over J-C.
In the girl's game, a battle for the Centennial League lead, and the Lady Blue Jays are tough, still undefeated, and would remain undefeated with the 64-41 victory over the Hayden Wildcats.
Out to Silver Lake now for a battle of Mid-East League leaders as the Eagles hosted Rock Creek. Eagles hung close, but Rock Creek put it away late, 62-56 Mustangs.
Same two teams, just switch up the genders, and Rock Creek won this one also, 45-37 the final.
