To the ball diamond, where Friday, baseball lost one of it's greats.
Hank Bauer, who also fought in World War Two as a Marine and set a World Series record with a 17-game hit-streak with the New York Yankees, passed away in Kansas City Friday at the age of 84.
The outfielder, and three-time All-Star also played two years with the Kansas City A's and managed the A's in 1961 and 62.
Meanwhile, on the gridiron, former Kansas State assistant and now Wisconsin head coach Bret Bielema signed on for some spare change Friday afternoon.
The 37-year-old Bielema, who coached under Bill Snyder at K-State, is getting a new five-year, $7.5 million contract.
The second-youngest head coach in NCAA Division One lead the Badgers to the most victories in program history this past season with a 12-1 record and a victory over Arkansas in the Capital One Bowl.
