Topeka golfer takes KGA Kansas Amateur
9:55 p.m. Sunday, July 22, 2007
Topeka What began with 300 of the state's top golfers, whittled down to just two players for Sunday's final round of the Kansas Golf Association "Kansas Amateur" at the Topeka Country Club.
The top two players in the field were Topeka native Gary Woodland and Sublette's Wes Stonestreet.
On hole 16 with Woodland up three, he missed a putt that would seal the win, leaving Stonestreet with a chance to force another hole. Stonestreet needed to sink a ten-foot shot to continue, but was unable to capitalize on Woodlands mistake.
Woodland wins the 97th Kansas Amateur 3-and-2 over Wes Stonestreet. The victory is Woodland's second Kansas Amateur title. He also took the title back in 2005 in Wichita.
