Flippin' flapjacks and fightin' cancer
9:45 p.m. Sunday, July 29, 2007
Topeka The town of St. Marys came together Sunday and flipped some flapjacks to help a friend battling cancer.
Immaculate Conception Church members held a pancake feed to help raise money for Jane Akin, who was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer last spring. Now everybody around her is pulling together to help raise money for her treatments.
"Jane and all of her family just really appreciate all the support. Whether it's cards or monetary donations, or just a phone call; it helps her fight," says Jane’s daughter, Nikki Markham.
The event raised nearly $2,000.
