Local artist brings childhood heroes to the canvas
1 p.m. Wednesday, June 6, 2007
Local artist Ben Rumback features his first art show of his career. Rumback's art is very whimsical and incorporates many well-known characters.
The title of Rumback's show is Heroes and Villains of a Devoted Youth. Rumback says the inspiration for this shows stems back to his childhood.
"All of the subject matter is drawn from three main sources from my childhood, Nintendo, comic books and the original Star Wars movies," he said. "I am hoping that it will bring about a little bit of nostalgia and a couple of laughs. It is just light-hearted, pop-y art. It is not meant to be captivating or emotionally moving."
Along with producing his own bright works of art, Rumback also lends his knowledge to teach children at a Lawrence elementary school.
Rumback's show is Thursday night at Astrokitty Comics & More in Lawrence. Learn more at Astrokittycomics.com.
