Good friendship survives even a tornado

The tornado was so powerful it flattened the metal flag pole, threw entire brick walls like they were nothing more than sheets of paper, and check this out, it even put a board through the side of this post office box. But the one thing it just couldn't seem to do, was break the spirit of the people here in Greensburg.

"I gotta back up, regroup and punt. Do it again," tornado survivor Marvin Lawson said.

"It's kind of hard to describe. Everything just blew up," tornado survivor Lewis Tomlinson said.

It destroyed nearly everything in its path.

"I'm totally wiped out. I mean totally wipe out," Lawson said.

"No where to run, no where to hide," Tomlinson said.

But even though the monster tornado decimated Greensburg, it couldn't shatter the strength of the people living there.

"We'll make it," Lawson said.

Or their humor.

Marvin Lawson has lived in Greensburg for five years, and just finished remodeling his bathroom. He and his old Marine buddy were supposed to be casting lines this week.

"I won't be getting any fishing done this trip," Lawson said.

Instead, they're fishing for what's left of Lawson's home.

But while the town is literally gone, neighbors say it's still home to them, and nothing can take that away.

"Greensburg is a beautiful town, the people are beautiful and work hard," Lawson said.

This building is pretty representative of what the Greensburg looks like, and just looking through here, you can see thousands of pieces of what used to be. But while it may take residents months, even years to rebuild, they say, it's time to get to work.
