Topeka More than 70 kids headed out to Lake Shawnee with the parents and grandparents for the Kids Fishing Derby Saturday, and while a few got serious about pulling in the prized catch of the day, most just enjoyed a day out with the family.
"I think it's nice for the kids to learn how to fish and have some quality time with them,” said grandparent Gary Steenbock.
The little fishing experts also had the chance to reel in a few prizes as well as snatch up drinks and snacks.
