Topeka spa about more than skin-deep beauty

Topeka Forget your facials, manicures and pedicures - spa employees at Lifestyles Spa are about more than just skin deep beauty.
"I woke up one morning at four o'clock and decided we needed to do something to help,” says Lifestyles Owner Rachel Joy.
Instead of whipping up beauty treatments, Rachel’s workers are whipping up funds to help Wakarusa flood victims get back on their feet.
Rachel put her employees to work keeping the grill going for the fundraiser, and called in a few reinforcements as well. The Shawnee Heights High School cheerleaders were on hand for some face painting, and musician Harvey Brooks donated money from his CD sales to the fundraiser, reminding visitors that every cent helps.
"You might think it real small, but do it anyways,” says Brooks.
Even Mayor Bill Bunten stopped by the event.
"Wakarusa has had more than their fair share of flooding. It's just a part of the way we are here in Kansas and in this city,” said Bunten.
But while it's going to take months for residents to get their homes repaired, Rachel says she just wants to help any way she can.
"Thank god I've never been through any tornados or floods. If I ever were, I would hope there would be people out there helping out,” says Rachel.
Members of the Wakarusa Presbyterian Church were also on hand, helping to total up the event’s earnings.
