If you're sending holiday mail and packages in the U.S., they need to be in the mailbox by Dec. 20.
After December 20, you have to use Express Mail for packages to arrive by Christmas.
If you're sending to soldiers or family overseas, the deadline is even sooner. The post office needs packages and cards going to soldiers overseas by December 11 to ensure they arrive on time.
Topeka's general post office is gearing up to make sure everything runs smoothly this busy holiday season.
More than 400,000 letters and boxes will move through daily.
This post office will hire more people to work over the next 21 days.
"We are in the Christmas spirit and wish everyone a merry Christmas," said USPS Plant Manager James Thompson. "And please get your packages in. Santa will be waiting."
