Lobbyist lucre flowing into the Statehouse

The numbers are in and they are up.
Lobbyists dished out the dollars to politicians during the first two months of 2008.
The state Governmental Ethics Commission says that in January and February, lobbyists reported spending nearly $575,000 to influence state government.
That's $265,000 more than was reported during the same period last year, an 85 percent increase.
Some of the reasons include some hot button issues like high profile media campaigns in favor of two coal-fired power plants in southwest Kansas as well as a tobacco company's very public efforts to block a smoking ban.
