Voice of the Voter: Democratic Debate
8:54 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2008
Our Voice of the Voter panel is made up of community members of different backgrounds and political affiliations who have taken an interest in this election and in helping us figure out what issues are most important to you.
We sat with members of our panel while the candidates spoke.
We got their opinions during and after the debate.
One of their chief complaints, especially in the first half of the debate, was that the candidates couldn't seem to really get to the issues.
Listen to extended comments from our Voice of the Voter panelists here.
Panelist Claudia Hamer:
"I wish they would just get around to discussing issues: what they're going to do... Let's start, let's talk about the issues. They've got an hour and a half. Have you heard an issue?
Panelist Bennie Davis:
"No, not really. It appears they are rehashing old issues and I'm kind of like you. I want them to move on and start talking about how they are going to provide answers to some of these problems, for example, unemployment [and] how they want to create the new jobs.
Those candidates did eventually get down to the specifics, but for our panelists, it wasn't quite enough.
We will continue to check in with our panelists as the campaigns continue.
