The sound of football is in the air and that can only mean one thing...the kickoff to the Jayhawks 2008 season is just over two weeks away. And Coach Mangino's boys are right on schedule to defend their Orange Bowl Title.

"We're just about where we need to be we got a lot of work to do we are far from a finish product we still have a long way to go in a lot of areas but we've made great strides in a lot of areas so we are about where we thought we'd be," said Head Coach Mark Mangino.

We already knew the guys from last year's squad would get back into the swing of things, but there's always the question whether this year's freshman will be able to adjust to college life.

"I really like this freshman class, very, very business-like. It's the most serious freshman class we've had here. These guys came here to play football. It holds a pretty high priority for them," said Coach Mangino

And those rookies will have to fight to get some playing time in one of last year's best offenses. The Hawks are ranked second nationally in scoring offense, and so far in camp, the O is firing on all cylinders.

"I like what our offense is doing. I think we're doing some really good things. We are executing a lot of things from last year, maybe even better," Mangino said. "Looking pretty good at times, most of the time, I should say, but I think our offense is on track, it's pretty good."

The Hawks kick things off on August 30 at Memorial Stadium against Florida International.
