Reesing named to Walter Camp Player Of The Year watch list

Kansas quarterback Todd Reesing is one of 35 players named to the 2008 Walter Camp Player of the Year Watch List it was announced on Monday. The award is the nation’s fourth-oldest individual college football honor.
Reesing, a junior, set 21 school records last year en route to throwing for 3,486 yards and 33 touchdowns in his first year as a starter. The 5-11, 200-pounder from Austin, Texas was an All-Big 12 Second Team selection in 2007 while leading the Jayhawks to a 12-1 record.
This preseason, Reesing has already been named to the Maxwell Award and Davey O’Brien Award Watch Lists. The Maxwell is given to the nation’s top player, while the O’Brien honor is awarded to the country’s top quarterback.
Among his school records are career marks for passing yards per game (230.6), 300-yard passing games (five) and touchdown passes (36). In 2007 he set KU season bests in a number of categories, including completions percentage (61.9 percent), passing yards (3,486), 300-yard passing games (five) and 200-yard passing games(10).
His 213 consecutive pass attempts without an interception late last year not only set a Kansas record, but a Big 12 mark as well.
The watch list will be narrowed to 15 semifinalists in early November. The 2008 Walter Camp Player of the Year recipient, which is voted on by the 119 NCAA Bowl Subdivision head coaches and sports information directors, will be announced on the ESPN/Home Depot College Football Awards Show in December. The winner will then receive his trophy at the Foundation’s annual national awards banquet on January 10, 2009 at the Yale University Commons in New Haven, Conn.
Last year’s recipient was Arkansas running back and current Oakland Raider Darren McFadden.
