Baseball instant replay starts Thursday
9:38 p.m. Tuesday, August 26, 2008
Major League Baseball will begin a limited use of instant replay starting with three series that begin Thursday.
Commissioner Bud Selig announced the plan during a conference call. Replay will be in effect for all games that are played Friday.
The introduction of replay comes nearly 10 months after general managers voted 25-5 to use the technology, and follows agreements with the unions for umpires and for players.
Initially, video will be used only on so-called "boundary calls," such as determining whether fly balls went over the fence or whether potential home runs were fair or foul.
