Sebelius for president?
Media outlets: Kansas governor has chance of achieving what Hillary Clinton could not

In newspapers and on televisions, there's starting to be some buzz that Gov. Kathleen Sebelius could be a viable candidate to become the nation's first female president. It's no mistake, but our political expert says she'd have to do something before she could make a serious run for the white house.
"Historically, with a few exceptions -- 'presidential timber' is what we call it -- has been from either the senate or governorships," 49 News Political Analyst Loran Smith said.
But it still came as quite a surprise to Smith that Sebelius' name is being suggested during the topic of the first female president discussion.
"I haven't got the foggiest," Smith said. "I mean we haven't had a great deal of respect in getting anyone elected president except Dwight D. Eisenhower, and he made his fame outside the state."
With a speech at the Democratic National Convention and a final four ranking for vice president from Barack Obama, Sebelius is certainly stepping into the national spotlight.
But Sebelius isn't the only Kansan getting attention. Sen. Sam Brownback's name has also been tossed out as a possible future president.
"He is the darling of the social conservatives," Smith said. "The problem is I don't think that plays nationally."
Washburn University Junior Andrew Ross agreed.
"Some of his views are just a little too far to the right," Ross said.
Brownback has tried to get the presidential power before, without success.
"That tells me that there is a flaw in the Brownback campaign or presentation," Smith said.
Whether Brownback or Sebelius, Smith said both must grab more attention if either want to make a serious run for the White House.
"They'd have to really do something spectacular," he said. "Sebelius would have a slightly better shot, but don't ask me to bet money."
Sebelius already got her chance in the national spotlight at the Democratic National Convention. Next week, Brownback will speak at the Republican National Convention and is expected to nominate John McCain's choice for vice president.
Don't forget, a little known political figure gave a speech at one of the conventions four years ago and now he is in the national spotlight. His name: Barack Obama.
