Great Mural Wall project progresses; community invited to help paint
12:09 p.m. Friday, August 29, 2008
Mother Nature has cooperated much of August, to the delight of workers at 20st and Western. Brush stroke by brush stroke, the Great Mural Wall of Topeka is coming to life there.
The latest panel of the mural, which appears complete, represents the history of the Kansas Free Fair, which took place in the Chesney Park Neighborhood for the first half of the 20th century. The artwork will depict the past and present of the Chesney Park Neighborhood and the city of Topeka.
Citizens can learn about the fair's history and meet the artist, Dave Loewenstein, this weekend. The Chesney Park Action Team also invites the public to pick up a paint brush and help out.
If you are interested in learning more or painting, just come to the intersection of 20th and Western from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
