Labor Day weekend motorist alert

If you're traveling to Lawrence for the Jayhawks' season opener make sure you have the right game day plan to get to Memorial Stadium. The two westbound ramps at exit 202 on the turnpike are closed for bridge construction.

Traffic officials will be posting electronic message boards and even stopping traffic on the way in to town to warn drivers.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Meanwhile in the city of Topeka, crews will be tearing up Southwest 14th Street between Topeka Boulevard and Polk Street. Traffic will be restricted to one lane at several points between today and Sept. 5. Crews are doing pavement repair after it was damaged during gas line work in the area.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When you return to work Sept. 2, you may encounter some construction if you are driving on Southwest 30th Street. Workers will close a stretch of that street between Southwest Atwood and Southwest Arnold streets to work on the storm sewer. The stretch will be closed until Sept. 19, but homeowners will have access during the project.
