Students coming back for college, and the first home football game are boosting Manhattan’s economy.

Ballard's sporting goods store is one of the places benefiting.

"You can tell the week that all the kids can move in," Ballard's employee Kara Raasch said.

And the business, like many others in town, were prepared for the extra customers.

"We changed some of the layout of the store, so that there’s room for lines," Raasch said.

They also got in extra shipment so they have plenty of shirts for the first home game.

And clothing stores aren’t the only businesses benefiting.

Owner of Rickel’s Retail Liquor says they also prepare for the increase in sales.

"You see all this beer stacked up behind me? Yes ma'am we do," Edward Rickel said.

And all the shipment will be needed because Ed says they get 50 percent more business when students return and even more on game days.

"Ball games, you can probably say 75 percent more business," Rickel said.

But not all football games bring the same amount of business.

"Earlier games are better. Yeah later games cost us," Rickel said.

But these Manhattan businesses know bringing in some extra shipment is worth the money.

"Spend a lot more money, make a lot more money," Rickel said.
