A paint brush and a mural is bringing one community together, with every stroke some Topekans are painting history.

KT Walsh has been helping with a mural project at 20th and Western for months. She gives the kids direction, so they can join in making this piece of art.

Frank Hoge has lived in the Chesney Park Neighborhood for 52 years.

"Its great; we can come back and look at this for years and say I did that," Hoge said.

When Hoge drives by and looks at the artwork, he says "it just grabs ya, it just grabs ya, and you're like hey there's something going on here in the neighborhood."

Dave Loewenstein designed the mural. He realized the neighborhood "had the world's best mural canvas right in their backyard," Loewenstein said.

And the best part, this weekend anyway, was that anyone could join in. Tyler Hausthor is one kid who jumped in to help. When asked what his favorite part of the experience was, he replied "well pretty much, is actually the activity that you get to paint; it's actually that you get to choose the color," Hausthor said.

It was a family day for one dad and his two sons.

The word is getting into area schools about the mural. "Our teacher gave us these cards, and so we got to paint here," said another helper Evan Hausthor.

Not only do people come to help make this community better, but they come for the fellowship as well.

"It's just wonderful to work along side people and hear their stories," Loewenstein said.

The mural will be dedicated September 28. The dedication is open to the public and will be held from 1 to 3 p.m.

The project will continue until all of the panels are painted.
