A wrap-up of Kansas Caucus results

It really was an incredible night and even though Obama took Kansas, the big winner was the Kansas voter.

Party leaders expected about 10,000 people would caucus. Kansans tripled that number.

30,000 braved the elements and the crowds.

It was a room divided, but definitely not split down the middle.

The night at the Robinson Middle School caucus site started with a long line to get in.

Then caucus-goers were greeted with stickers and beads. Yes, beads.

Super Tuesday fell on Mardi Gras, but it was the candidates that got the first-time caucus-goers in the mood to celebrate their party.

“That was fantastic, all the democrats coming together,” exclaimed first time caucus-goer Lulu Alejandro, as the event ended.

Elizabeth Ross, who caucused for Obama, gushed, “I think it's amazing. You know, everybody always thinks that Kansas is a red state and everything and to see the turnout and to hear about the turnout across the state and across the city is just phenomenal and I think people have completely underestimated Kansans.”

The governor's home, or rather, her mansion, put her in this caucus district, where she spoke in support of Barack Obama.

Her support may have paid off, but it's not what brought the people we spoke to out.

“I had no idea the governor was going to be here. I came just to caucus,” Elizabeth Ross added.

Here's how those results broke down in Kansas:

Barack Obama walked away with 73% of the vote.

Hillary Clinton came away with the other 27%.

Those numbers decide who 32 of the 41 Kansas delegates will be supporting at the Democratic National Convention in August.

Unofficial tallies show Obama with 23 of the Kansas delegates, and Clinton with 9.

The other nine delegates, the “Super-delegates are party leaders and elected officials who go to the convention, no matter whom they support, although, some of them, like Governor Sebelius, have already made it quite clear.

Nationally, the trend was a little different.

Clinton has a very slight lead over Obama at this point, and for Republicans, John McCain is in the lead.

The Kansas Republican Caucus is Saturday.
