Candidates rally Kansans
Huckabee, McCain in Kansas
6:52 p.m. Friday, February 8, 2008
The last minute campaign visit from presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee still managed to bring in the crowds.
They lined up and signed in to support the candidate some say could be the answer to their prayers.
Here’s Huckabee’s advice to the voter:
“[Get] on the phone tonight, and [call] your neighbors and invite them to a late brunch. You go by, honk the horn, and when they get in, toss them a bologna sandwich and say 'eat quick. The caucus starts in 30 minutes.”
Hundreds showed up to hear what the Arkansas Governor had to say.
Huckabee energized the crowd when he spoke about one of the cornerstones of his campaign:
"The issue of right to life… is at the heart and soul of our nation," Huckabee told the crowd.
Arizona senator John McCain also squeezed in a Sunflower State stop in Wichita.
"We can win in Kansas, and I need it and I would be very honored by your support," McCain said.
Both Huckabee and McCain spoke about veterans' rights.
Huckabee touched on problems with illegal immigration and taxes on small businesses.
The rally ended in true candidate fashion: shaking hands, signing autographs, and of course, holding babies.
Huckabee also promised to push for a constitutional amendment to keep marriage between a man and a woman. He said he'd focus on energy independence and keeping manufacturing jobs here in the U.S.
