"I have concluded that it's in my best interest to resign," Attorney General Paul Morrison said.
Kansas moves forward after a sex scandal rocked the attorney general's office. Paul Morrison steps down at the end of January. Governor Sebelius must pick a replacement. Names being mentioned include Securities Commissioner Chris Biggs and Douglas County District Attorney Charles Branson.
In February, Kansans weigh in on the presidential race. Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and John Edwards are on the Democratic ballot on February 5. Kansans choose from Republicans Mike Huckabee, John McCain, Ron Paul and Mitt Romney on February 9.
Life and death decisions will be made in Kansas courtrooms this year. Edwin Hall is set for trial in September in Johnson County. Police say Hall kidnapped 19-year-old Kelsey Smith from a Target parking lot in June. Her body was found in a park in Missouri four days later.
Justice may come more slowly for Nacole Winter. The 15-year-old's burned body was found in 2006 near the Lake Shawnee Golf Course. In March 2008, the suspect in her murder, Christopher Hall, will finish 90 days in the Larned State Security Hospital. Doctors will then decide whether he's competent to stand trial.
Tornado ravaged Greensburg gets a visit from megastar Leonardo DiCaprio. He's expected to visit sometime in January. DiCaprio was so impressed with the town's efforts to rebuild as environmentally friendly as possible, that he partnered with the Discovery Channel. The two are now shooting a documentary on Greensburg's rebuilding. The series, called Eco-Town airs this fall.
And who would have thought we'd be talking football in January. KU kicks off 2008 at the Orange Bowl. The Jayhawks are underdogs in the match-up with Virginia Tech on January third.
Speaking of third, the Jayhawk basketball team starts '08 ranked third in the nation.
What else is in store for us in '08? For now, it's a toss up.
