Many of us got gift cards for Christmas.
But if you have one from last year, you may want to spend it soon.
That's because it could be losing value.
In 2006, Kansas lawmakers decided gift cards could not diminish in value until one year after they were purchased, and the cards couldn't expire for five years.
But after a year, retailers can still begin charging a monthly fee until your card balance drops down to zero.
