Kansans could hold weight in picking president
5:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 8, 2008
First it was Iowa, then New Hampshire.
But why should those states have all the fun and all the power in picking our next president?
This year could be different as long as the nominations aren't sewn up by the time the Kansas caucuses roll around.
On Feb, 5, Kansas Democrats will caucus.
That's Super Tuesday, when more than 20 other states will hold also their caucuses or primaries.

We want you to be informed about the possible choices for president. That's why we've researched where the candidates stand on issues like the Iraq war and gay marriage. Check out the candidate's platforms here.
That means candidates will likely ignore voters in small population states like Kansas in favor of campaigning in the bigger population states, like California, New York or Illinois.
The Kansas Republican caucus is a few days later, Feb. 9.
Only one other state, Louisiana, has a primary on that date.
That means if the Republican nomination isn't determined on Super Tuesday, Kansas suddenly becomes a whole lot more important for candidates looking to secure the nomination.
And it means a better chance for Republican candidates to come campaign in Kansas.
