Topeka Civic Theatre offer two times the fun

"The Somewhat True Tales of Robin Hood" and "The Produces" will debut at the Topeka Civic Theatre and Academy this summer.

Twelve area youth -- from age 7 to 17 -- perform "The Somewhat True Tales of Robin Hood." The retell the stories of Robin Hood in a "Monty Python-esque way" said the theatre's artistic director Shannon Reilly.

"It's incredibly funny," he said. "These kids run around and do all the exciting, thrilling stuff without ever becoming as naughty as Monty Python."

Ticket info

You can purchase tickets over the phone by calling (785) 357-5211 or you can order online. Just tap into Topekacivictheatre.com.

The show runs through July 6. Tickets are $8.

For more mature tastes, Reilly invites the community to "The Producers," which debuts July 11 and is scheduled to run through Aug. 9.

"The Producers" was a smash-hit on Broadway, but the Topeka production is much more affordable. Tickets range from $15 to $22. A dinner ticket can also be purchased to enhance your trip to see "The Producers."

Reilly said that most people didn't know the Topeka Civic Theatre is a dinner theatre.

"It's the most celebrated community dinner theatre in the country," he said. "It's one of the oldest in the nation, and the oldest community theatre in Kansas."
