Man behind bars on attempted murder charges

A man is in jail tonight after a shooting in rural Northeast Kansas.

Holton police responded to a house in Holton early this morning and found 18-year old Jessie Hayes and a 17-year-old girl shot in the yard.

Both were taken to hospitals.

Hayes was treated and released, but the girl remains in critical condition.

Police arrested 18-year-old Kurtis Ramage on two counts of attempted first-degree murder, according to a police press release.

Ramage fled the scene, but was brought to the sheriff's office by his father.
