The Capitol City is hosting the Great Plains Shootout this weekend.
The wooden bat baseball tourney kicked off Thursday, and the tournament is running at three different sites across Northeastern Kansas including Tointon Stadium at Kansas State, Washburn's Falley Field, and Hummer Sports Park.
The Topeka Stars played their second game of pool play this afternoon at Hummer Sports Park. 49 Sports Anchor Dave DeCandis was there.
At the top fifth, the Stars were on top 5-1 against the Texas Stix, but made it more. Ryan Redick roped one down the line in right to send the runner all the way around from first, and Redick trotted into second with an easy double.
During the bottom of the fifth inning, Topeka switched to defensive mode.
At the bottom seventh, Ryan Fike was on the mound to close it out for the Stars.
The Stars sailed away with a victory over the Stix, 6-1. Topeka will play again tonight at 8:45 at Falley Field.
Teams from Kansas, Texas, Missouri, Colorado and Oklahoma are participating and pool play wraps up today, and the actual tournament will kick off Saturday.
