Topeka Stars shut out Bolivar Liberators at Great Plains Shootout
11:35 p.m. Friday, July 4, 2008
The Topeka Stars played back-to-back games today in the third round of pool play of the Great Plains Shootout.
The Stars sailed away with a victory over the Texas Stix, 6-1, and then later played the Bolivar Liberators.
In the top of the first inning of that later game, the ball gets lined to third and Manhattan High school's Michael McDiffett makes a nice catch to take away the base hit.
Later in the inning, Shawnee Heights' Riley Price sits him down swinging to end the inning at 0-0.
Price would later steal second when the catcher threw a bad pass there. That enabled Caleb Wilson to score, making it 1-0 Stars.
Later McDiffett grounded to short, but that throw went wide of the bag and Washburn Rural's Blaine Matthews trotted in to home.
The Stars went on to score eight more points, ending the game 10-0.
Pool play ended today, and the actual tournament will kick off Saturday.
