Lyle Pfaff is one of the oldest competitors in this year's Sunflower State Games at 76 years-old.
The Riley County native started his athletic career later in life after he retired from working at Kansas State.
"Well, when I retired at the college, I said I was going to do sports and so I started. And some of the neighbors were doing senior games and I got into it and I kept right on going," Pfaff said.
And don't let the age fool you either. Lyle isn't just participating in senior games across the region. He is going out there to take home some hardware. And where better to keep them than on your review mirror.
"I get a few medals every year. I got about 70 already this year and I got about over 700 medals in about 10 years," Pfaff said.
You may wonder how Lyle can still do all these events at his age. Well, he says it's from years of working on the farm.
"I do quite the labor work on the farm and it keeps me in shape and I feed probably 100-and-some head of cattle for this guy," he said. "And there's a lot of grain scoped and everything and that keeps me in shape."
And we could all learn something from Lyle about how to stay young..
"You just got to stay active and I never give up. I hope five years from now I'm still doing it."
Lyle won two golds today in the high jump and javelin.
He looks to win another medal next weekend in the horseshoe toss.
