Manhattan Construction crews repair streets in Riley County, which is primarily funded by the state gas tax.
Funds are down $80,000 in Riley County. That's 10 percent less than last year.
However, Riley County's booming economy is offsetting the decreased highway funds.
“Because I know all those people that lost, totally lost their homes, they are going to have to go out and buy a refrigerator, dishwashers, ranges, you know, all of that stuff,” says Riley County Treasurer Eileen King. “So it's going to help the economy, right here locally There’s no need to focus on the negative. There’s a silver lining.”
King says the county economy is encouraging.
But Riley County Commissioners plan to cut property taxes to help local families.
