Lady Blues tennis season comes to an end

— The Washburn Lady Blues tennis season came to an end in the first round of the NCAA North Central Regional Tournament with a 5-3 loss to Emporia State. The Lady Blues were making their sixth straight NCAA appearance and 12th overall. Washburn finishes the season with a 12-7 overall record.

The Lady Blues fell in two of the three doubles matches to begin action as the duo of Rachel Stevens and Lauren Harris picked up an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles over Emporia State's Molly Bowman and Kirsten Ford.

In singles play, Diana Goldsmith, the No. 46 ranked player in the country in the nation who was named the MIAA's Most Valuable Player on Wednesday, picked up a 6-1, 6-3 win over Marcela Bayon. Washburn's other singles win came at No. 6 singles as Lauren Harris topped Stacia Whittecar 6-1, 6-3.

The match was also the final one for head coach Jennifer Hastert, a former three-time all-American at Washburn, who is resigning. Current Metro State head coach Dave Alden will take over the reigns of the Lady Blues and Ichabod programs on July 1.
