The Emporia State baseball team is just gearing up for its regional tournament.
While the Hornets wait, some post-season honors occupy their time.
Senior catcher Keith Hernandez was the unanimous pick for MIAA Player of the Year.
Hernandez led the league in batting average, hitting 475, along with four other stat categories.
Meanwhile skipper Bob Fornelli was a consensus choice for Coach of the Year.
He led the Hornets to an MIAA-record 35 consecutive wins, including the first 24 in conference play.
Joining Hernandez as a unanimous first team selection is Hornet pitcher Tyler Applehans, second baseman Anthony Dreiling and outfielder Eric Shortell.
Outfielder Brian Majors and designated Connor Crumbliss were also selected to the first team.
No Hornets were named to the second team, but four Emporia Staters and three Ichabods received honorable mention.
