107-year old Frank Woodruff Buckles was honored Sunday in a ceremony at the National World War One Museum in Kansas City, Mo.
The veteran lied about his age after being rejected by the Marines and the Navy when he enlisted in the Army in 1917. He served until 1919.
A portrait of Buckles was unveiled.
It's now part of a permanent exhibit at the museum.
"I had a feeling of longevity, that I might be among those who survived, but I didn't know I was going to be the number one," Woodruff Buckles said.
