Media Challenge Blood Drive encourages people to donate

The Community Blood Center will be hosting its first ever Media Challenge Blood Drive.

The blood drive will be May 27 from 12:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the lower level of the West Ridge Mall.

Donors will receive a free t-shirt and coupons.

Kathy Belanger says the blood drive encourages everyone to come out and support donors, patients, and your favorite stations.

Belanger says the main reason for the blood drive is that everyday patients need blood.

“Every 3.9 minutes somebody receives a blood transfusion. Last year 47,000 people received blood from community blood center donors.”

Donating only takes about 45 minutes. There will be a short physical where blood pressure and temperature will be taken and nurses will ask you a few questions.

Belanger said the needle, which most people find the scariest part, is only in your arm about five to seven minutes.
